
USA Student Visa Requirements for Bangladeshi Students

1. Types of USA Student Visas
There are three types of student visas for the USA:
- F-1 Visa – For students enrolling in academic programs at universities, colleges, or language schools.
- J-1 Visa – For exchange program participants, including research scholars and students in cultural exchange programs.
- M-1 Visa – For students in vocational or technical programs.
Most Bangladeshi students apply for the F-1 Visa to pursue higher education in the USA.
2. USA Student Visa Requirements for Bangladeshi Applicants
To apply for an F-1 visa, you need to meet the following requirements:
A. Admission to a SEVP-Approved Institution
- You must be accepted by a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-approved university, college, or institution in the USA.
- The university will issue a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status).
B. Financial Proof
- Evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition, living expenses, and additional costs for at least one academic year.
- Bank statements, financial guarantee letters, or sponsorship documents may be required.
- If you are on a scholarship, official confirmation from the awarding body is necessary.
C. Valid Passport
- Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay in the USA.
D. Visa Application Forms & Fees
- Form DS-160 (Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form) – Must be completed online and printed for submission.
- SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) Fee – Pay the SEVIS fee (USD 350) before the interview.
- Visa Application Fee (USD 185) – Pay the fee and keep the receipt for your interview.
E. Passport-Size Photograph
- Recent passport-sized photos meeting US visa photo requirements (white background, 2”/2”).
F. Academic Documents
- Educational certificates and transcripts (SSC, HSC, Bachelor’s if applicable).
- Standardized test scores (if required by the university) – SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, etc.
- English Proficiency Proof – TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate (if applicable).
G. Statement of Purpose (SOP) & Resume
- Some universities may require a Statement of Purpose (SOP) explaining your study goals.
- A resume/CV with academic and extracurricular details is beneficial.
H. Visa Interview Preparation
- Attend an in-person interview at the US Embassy in Dhaka.
