1. Eligibility Criteria

To apply for an Australia Student Visa (Subclass 500), you must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in a CRICOS-Registered Course: You need a Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) from an Australian institution.
  • Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Requirement: You must prove that your primary purpose is to study and that you will return to Bangladesh after completing your studies.
  • Financial Capability: You must demonstrate that you can afford tuition, living costs, and travel expenses.
  • English Language Proficiency: A valid IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE score is required unless you are exempt. Some universities may accept MOI (Medium of Instruction) certificates.
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC): You must have health insurance for your entire stay in Australia.
  • Character and Health Checks: You must meet Australian immigration’s health and character requirements.

2. Required Documents

  • Valid Passport (valid for at least the duration of your course)
  • Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) from an Australian university or college
  • Financial Proof (bank statements, education loan proof, or financial sponsor documents)
  • English Language Proficiency Certificate (IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE scores)
  • GTE Statement (a written document explaining your study plans and intention to return home)
  • OSHC Health Insurance Certificate
  • Character Certificate & Police Clearance
  • Medical Test Reports (from an Australian panel doctor)

3. Financial Requirements

You must prove that you have enough funds to cover:

  • Travel Costs (return airfare to Bangladesh)

Accepted financial documents include personal bank statements, a letter of sponsorship, or proof of a student loan.

4. English Language Requirements

Most Australian universities require an English language test. Acceptable tests include:

  • IELTS: Minimum 5.5 overall
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 46
  • PTE Academic: Minimum score of 42

Some universities may accept an MOI (Medium of Instruction) Certificate if your previous education was in English. Always check with the institution before applying.

5. Work Rights on Student Visa

  • You can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while studying.
  • Full-time work is allowed during semester breaks.
  • Spouse Work Rights: If your partner is accompanying you, they may be allowed to work depending on your course level.

6. Visa Conditions

  • Must maintain full-time enrollment in a CRICOS-registered course.
  • Must not switch to a lower qualification level without approval.
  • Maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) at all times.
  • Inform your university of any address change within seven days.

7. Visa Processing Time

The Australian student visa processing time varies based on application type:

  • Higher Education Sector: 4–8 weeks
  • Vocational Education (TAFE, Diploma, etc.): 6–12 weeks
  • Postgraduate Research: 2–6 months
